Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or location entered in a search tool is sent directly to the outside provider operating that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies its results. Baylor County Criminal History does not retain or record those search terms on its own systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
Messages sent by email are kept as needed to prepare a response. They remain within our organization unless disclosure is required by a legal obligation.
Data We Gather Automatically
When a visitor loads a page, the servers automatically receive certain technical details:
- The date and time of each page request
- The device's assigned IP address
- The referring website, when one is provided
- The browser name and version
- The operating system and type of device
- The pages viewed and time spent on them
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files placed on a device to help measure how visitors move through the site, including popular pages and common exit points. Analytics providers combine this traffic information for us. A browser can be set to reject cookies, although blocking them may change how some site functions behave.
What We Do With This Data
- Routing a search request to the appropriate partner
- Maintaining site availability, speed, and operation
- Diagnosing and correcting technical problems
- Learning which content visitors use and where improvements are needed
- Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
Baylor County Criminal History does not keep, assemble, or sell a database of anyone's criminal-record information. Its reference material identifies how to seek Baylor County records from the sheriff, the criminal courts, the Texas Department of Public Safety Crime Records Division, and the Texas Public Sex Offender Registry. This is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and visitor data is never compiled into consumer reports or third-party dossiers.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies power the search boxes. Information submitted through one of those tools is governed by that partner's privacy policy rather than this policy. Each provider controls its retention and disclosure practices. Read the applicable provider policy before entering a query.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to the Baylor County Sheriff's Office, court portals, Texas agencies, legal-aid resources, or outside search tools. Once a visitor follows an external link, the destination's privacy policy controls that visit. Review it before providing personal information.
Some advertising providers may follow activity between websites to select targeted ads. That tracking occurs through the providers' systems, not ours.
Who Might See Your Data
Personal information is not sold. It may be disclosed to:
- Advertising networks that serve ads on the pages
- Search providers that process a visitor's query
- Government or law-enforcement bodies acting under a valid legal order
- Analytics providers that measure traffic and site performance
How We Protect Your Data
Standard security measures are used to protect collected information. No internet-connected system can be made completely secure, however, so we cannot guarantee that a breach will never occur.
Users Under 18
The site is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone younger than 18. If we learn that a minor supplied personal data, we will delete it promptly.
Your Data Rights
Rights may vary with a visitor's residence. In Texas, the Texas Data Privacy and Security Act, Texas Business and Commerce Code Chapter 541, may grant added control over personal data. The Texas Public Information Act, Government Code Chapter 552, and the criminal-history dissemination rules in Government Code §§411.083 and 411.135 govern government records and Texas DPS criminal-history access, not private visitor data held by this site. At a minimum, a visitor may:
- Opt out of certain forms of processing
- Request access to personal information held about them
- Ask that inaccurate information be corrected
- Request deletion of their personal data
Updates to This Policy
This policy may be revised. Any revision will be posted here and identified by a new effective date, so visitors should review the page periodically.
